Robertson County Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Here is just another quick reminder about tonight’s tree lighting ceremony in Springfield at the Courthouse Square – we will look forward to seeing you there this evening!

The county is scheduled to light up a Christmas tree at the county courthouse in Springfield at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30.
This year, a permanent Christmas tree – a blue spruce – is being planted at the corner of the courthouse building nearest to the red light at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Main Street.

A Taste of Robertson County

I thought I would pass this press release for ‘A Taste of Country’ sponsored by the Robertson County Chamber of Commerce.
Though this is generally outside my discussions regarding all things effecting RC government, I thought I would take a second to share this with you. Reason being, well, reasons…I am a member of the RCCoC, and I support their efforts in making this most attractive community in Middle Tennessee. But, more importantly, and to the point I would like to share. Any and all events that can help unify RC are important and should be supported.
As a commissioner, I am committed to overcome the sectionalism and self-interests prevalent throughout RC. This may be a bad example, but I think this presents a perfect example to showcase just how attractive this County is to Middle Tennessee, the State and beyond.
We are proud to announce that a committee has been formed and plans are well underway for “A Taste of Country”, a festival designed to showcase all the best of Robertson County. The date has been set for Saturday, June 11, on and around our historic Court House Square in Springfield, and the day’s agenda will include music, food, arts and crafts and the agricultural heritage of which Robertson County is so proud. This date was chosen to coincide with downtown Nashville’s annual CMA Fest. This week-long event attract fans from all over the U.S. and beyond, and hoteliers tell us that many of these visitors are looking for a chance to get out of the city for a spell and experience the small-town, rural atmosphere of Nashville’s surrounding areas.
Check out the entire press release if you have a moment. The County needs more folks interested in these kinds of endeavors, and it needs folks like you.

Shopping Local: Why? / Next Year!

Marcus Washington, of NewsChannel5, covered Robertson County this past week with a story on the importance of shopping locally:

Succinctly, because it benefits the community in which YOU live.

It is almost a companion story to the piece Jim Bellis had in the Robertson County Times earlier this week.

Anecdotally, this piece asks local leaders and businesses what their thoughts are of the economic outlook for 2011. "Cautious optimism" seems to be the theme here in Robertson County.

As relates to both stories, it so good to see Robertson County in the news in positive ways.

On a side note, whenever I see Springfield's downtown/courthouse square on the news, it always goes to show me how fortunate we are to have such a proactive group of downtown merchants, businesses and professionals who have worked so hard to maintain and preserve such a vibrant and beautiful square. Time and again, when I see other communities on/in the news, we shine that much more.

Thanksgiving Day: Today & Tomorrow

A little late on my part, but nevertheless something I wanted to share with the each of you:
In her weekly column with the Robertson County Times, Robertson County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Margot Fosnes discusses some of the goings on for Thanksgiving Day. But, not in the usual sense, what she highlights has to do with those in our County in need the most, and those in our community willing to take time from their day to share their own thanksgiving blessings.
The Great Faith Community Action Community Action through the Master's Table & Springfield Baptist Church both will be hosting activities and facilitating outreach today, Thanksgiving Day.
Check out Margot's column here, if you are not able to help those today, she cites groups herein our Robertson County where you can help tomorrow.
