Dr. Weeks in Dickson

I found this story particularly interesting.
It appears that Dr. Danny Weeks entered as a candidate for Dickson County Director of Schools some time ago.
Here is coverage on the story from The Dickson Herald.

  1. Why would we fault a person for keeping their options open? I think it wise to stay abreast of all opportunites in your field. It may be unfornuate in the timing, but I wish the best for him and for each of the counties searching for a director.

    1. I agree. Dr. Weeks has done a tremendous job as Assistant Director of schools for several years. He is knowledgeable of the area, but more importantly the school system and it's students and teachers. If the school board chooses to go with anyone else, they are simply doing an injustice to the children of our system.

    2. Where is the proof of that? I don't see him out in the schools. Don't agree with the above.

  2. I hope we can keep the experience and talent of Dr. Weeks in Robertson County as our next Director of Schools.

  3. I agree with the above comments. He apparently done a good job here and with the uncertainty of his future with this county it is only nature that he would apply there. His application in Dickson County does not, in any way, that he would not like or do a good job in Robertson County.
    Thanks.

  4. Was there an agreement made that the candidates not seek other options? I understand one of the other candidates has also applied at another location also.

What is wrong with getting new ideas and a new vision on our schools? I don't have anything personally against Dr. Weeks, but everyone knows what shape our schools are in and he has been second in command, which in my opinion has reason for concerns. If he can handle this position, then why hasn't he been out there advocating for our schools instead of worrying so much about the TEA organization? We have a lot at stake presently, and it's obvious from our test scores. I would think the person right behind the current director would have been more proactive than he has been.

  6. "New ideas and new visions" comes at a huge gamble. It always worries me when we have to go out of state to find new philosophies for education. Most of the time, these great new ideas are tried and failed policies somewhere else. Passing up Dr. Weeks for some unknown, untested candidate is a huge risk. Look into the other candidates before you rule against Dr. Weeks. Almost all of these people have had their contracts bought out by their former employers.

  7. I agree with the most recent comment. As for the "shape of our schools", I would encourage you to look deeper than the "perception." Our most recent scores across the county beat state averages in multiple areas, and show growth in every area. It IS getting better, and there is hard proof. Are they issues? Sure, but I believe things are moving in the right direction. One of the "outside" candidates even touted our recent successes in the public interview as one of the reasons for applying. If outsiders see the quality in our schools, why can't locals?
